NEW YORK (OCN) — One of the easiest way for a New York driver to get a ticket is for running a red light that has a camera because they were trying to answer a call from 402-982-0694.

So who does the number belong to? Well, the Caller ID on a land line will display ESTA SOL but as we have learned in the past, numbers and names on Caller ID displays can be spoofed just as with emails. If you look very close at the number, you can see that the 402-982 is similar to numbers that were being used in May 2010 by MIK Co so the caller is definately a telemarketer.

MASSACHUSETTS (OCN) — If you need a pack of smokes, some snacks or some condoms, you can always count on a Hess Gas Station to be there for you. Unfortunately, armed robbers can also count on knocking over one of their stations for cash and store items.

Less than an hour to go before Wednesday morning of last week, a Hess Gas Station was robbed at knife point by a machete wielding male a little past 11:15 PM on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. The armed bandit was caught on scene but only on (CCTV) Closed-circuit television.

The art form of making music with a carpenter’s handsaw has been around for 300 years. For the past 8 years Astoria (Queens) became a pilgrimage spot for musical saw players from all over the world. Last year the festival got into the Guinness Book of Records for the ‘Largest Musical saw Ensemble’ with 53 saw players playing together, beating the previous record from Poland (28 saw players).

The festival includes world premiers of music written especially for the musical saw (including a piece for 3 musical saws), as well as the ‘Chorus of the Saws’ – all musical saw players playing together.
Musical saw solos & ensembles, performing many music styles (jazz, classical, pop, folk, show-tunes, etc.) performed by musical saw players from all over the world.
Also – ‘Ameriklectic’ – a 10 piece jazz band featuring the musical saw (Natalia ‘Saw Lady’ Paruz) as the lead instrument.

The festival is made possible by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funding from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the NY State Council on the Arts.

That’s because last month (July 2010) legislators passed a brutal budget that gives massive tax breaks to the rich, but cuts funding to programs on which working families rely. Starting this week, the world will will see the impact of a budget that provided for New Jersey’s wealthiest residents and ignored everyone else.

If Trenton had just kept taxes the same for people making over US$400,000 per year, New Jersey could have preserved property tax rebates or maintained funding for affordable health care, after school programs, and job training. Instead, the rich will be getting over a billion dollars in tax cuts while working families see services reduced, school funds diminished, tuition and transit fares rise, and property taxes go up.

The headlines are already talking about how next year’s budget could be as bad or worse than the last one, and Gov. Christie is already saying he still won’t ask the wealthy to pay their fair share. Legislators in Trenton read the opinion pages of local papers to determine how their constituents feel about an issue. They need to be reading about how outraged New Jersey’s working families feel about this budget; not just in May or June but throughout the year, or else legislators will keep backing down to this Governor and his wealthy buddies.

New Jersey deserves a better budget than the one legislators just passed, but they will never get it unless they fight for it.

NEW JERSEY (OCN) — A New Jersey gas station is in the hot seat this week. A few months ago, Pierre Brown, 24, and his girlfriend, Kristine Simpson, 19, needed some condoms before their trip to a hourly rate hotel in New York so they stopped by mart at a local Hess Gas Station while they filled up for their trip.

With the cost of gas, tolls, and the hotel room, the couple was short on funds to obtain condoms for their romantic excursion but since they were getting gas, the cashier in mart decided to open up a pack of condoms so that they could purchase just the amount they need at a cheaper price.

This would prove to be a costly error later as Ms. Simpson is now a few weeks pregnant and the couple and their attorney from Markham, Donnelly & Associates has filed a suit saying that the local Hess Gas Station is as fault as their client was not able to use the condom properly without the instructions that are still with the box.

NEW JERSEY (OCN) — Assembly Democrats have scheduled a vote on Monday to override Gov. Christie’s reckless veto of the millionaires’ tax and according to reports, it is not going to be easy as two-thirds of the legislature needs to support the override and stand up against Gov. Christie’s “Leave No Millionaire Behind” budget.

Right now, the Governor’s disaster of a budget relies almost entirely on dangerous cuts to New Jersey schools, health care, transit, parks and libraries. What’s worse, the only people it doesn’t ask to share in the sacrifice are the ones who can most afford it.

Monday’s vote is an important test of whether New Jersey’s representatives will stand with Governor Christie and his wealthy supporters or with the working families of the State of New Jersey.
