NEW YORK (OCN) — The Bronx Zoo is one of the most liked zoo in the United States and therefore is a target for scam and fraud offers by those trying to steal your identity or nest egg. To avoid being a target, here are somethings to know and keep in mind when seeking discounted offers.
Never use an email account that is linked to your social media accounts (ie. Facebook, MySpace, PayPal, etc) as these sites often have a feature where others can search for you via email which can give them information you may not want to share. The information can then be used for other purposes than intended.
Cell or Mobile Phone
Providing a cell or mobile phone is a great way to get text alerts and updates but it is also a way for you to receive spoofed messages from those who have the ability and technology to do so.
Social Security Number
The only reason your Social Security Number should be requested for free or discounted admission to the Bronx Zoo is to forward your information to the Internal Revenue Service as the discounts that you are receiving are worth US$600.00 or more. Please be aware that some may still request the information for smaller prizes so do research on the entity that is making the request before considering their contests.
