NEW YORK (OCN) — An emotionally distraught man was taken into custody Sunday in Queens after he allegedly slammed his young son into a car so hard it dented the hood, authorities said.
Witnesses said they saw the man acting disoriented, screaming and trying to hit passing cars with his fists as he walked down the middle of 166th Street at 45th Avenue in Flushing carrying his son, who appeared to be 5 or 6 years old.
“Fucking 9/11! I can’t watch the Jets game!” the troubled man allegedly shouted, according to witness Danny Simone. “We’re going down to Ground Zero to pay our respects.”
At one point, the man allegedly slammed the boy onto the top of a car, witnesses said.
Concerned bystanders called police, and after the man allegedly kicked out a cruiser’s rear windows, they strapped him to a stretcher and took him by ambulance to a hospital for medical evaluation.
The child, who was not severely injured, was released to his mother’s custody.
