NEW YORK (OCN) — The State of New York is planning to impose an acupuncture ban come Monday, September 1, 2008. We did a little digging to see if acupuncture was safe and found out that most modern acupuncturists use disposable stainless steel needles. Also if someone who wanted to have acupunture performed on them, they could purchase their own needles as well.
So why does New York want to impose a ban? Actually, it is not a total ban and it will only affect acupuncturists who have their practice on the fifth floor or higher in a building.
“Should their be a fire” says officials “we want to have everyone safe should they have to jump from the burning building.” As you can see in the video, it can be very difficult to jump from a building with needles stuck in your body. Currentlt, acupuncturists are currently trying to get a injuncture to stop the ban before it goes into effect.
