GHANA (OCN) — There is a school that is making the grade and that school with Primary and JSS Curriculum is the Alpha Beta Education Centre.
The mission of the Alpha Beta Education Centre is to help expose children to a rich and varied teaching/learning environment which seeks to broaden their outlook, encourage the best examples of Christian morality and service to others; and to develop skills which will enable them to compete favourably at both local and international levels.
Sammy Adjepong, after living in London for about 22 years, returned to Ghana with Florence his British-born Jamaican wife in 1986 with a vision to start a center to “grow” people.
There were many challenges and for some time it all looked like an impossibility until one day in August, 1988, Mr. Kofi Ofori-Addo, a great source of encouragement, insisted and wrote “Registration now in progress” on a small blackboard which he placed outside the gate.
And so it was that the Alpha Beta Montessori Learning Centre took off on September 6th, 1988 with 6 children under the carport as the summer hut was not yet ready.
The vision at that time was for a Nursery School of not more than 50 children to be housed in the circular summer hut. By the end of 1988 the handful of children were moved into the summer hut where there was space to arrange the “prepared environment” necessary for the Montessori approach.
