NEW YORK (OCN) — If you are driving around in the State of New York and see the price of gas is advertised at 15 cents per gallon, you don’t need to get your eyes checked but you do need to haul yourself into the station before it runs out of gas.
In a time when gas prices are slowly creeping up to US$5.00 per gallon, Inspectors were able to find Greenfield Gas Station in Ronkonkoma, NY selling gas with rigged pumps. The scoundrels were alleged in fixing the pumps so that they could gain an extra 10 to 15 cents per gallon sold.
They would advertise their prices lower than the 7-Eleven’s in the Ronkonkoma area but when patrons arrived to receive the discount, they were charged secretly at a higher rate. Owner, Jason Greenfield was fined US$1,000.00 and ordered to sell gasoline (for one hour per day) for the next 15 days at the rate of 15 cents per gallon.
The move was to hurt and discourage any other stations from doing something similar.
