What would happen if you passed through a toll without paying because you couldn’t or didn’t want to?
Well, at the toll both, a photo of the vehicle, including the license plate, will be taken and sent to the owner of the vehicle so if the vehicle is yours, you will be seeing the toll fee and fine pretty soon.
Borrowed from a friend or relative? Unfortunately, they will be the one to receive it and will be coming to get you later on to pay it and the same goes for rental companies.
Once the rental company receives the info, they will contact the State of New York and let them know who the offending party is and have it sent to the info on the drivers license they collected. Some rental companies will pay the fine and toll for you and bill your credit card for the toll, fine and an administrative fee for doin so.
Occasionally, the rental company wil not bill your credit card and will give the State of New York the wrong driver information so you could in fact receive a fine for another driver who had the vehicle before of after you so it is best to hold on to your rental agreement for at least a year should you rent a vehicle. This way, you can fight it in court.
To skip going to court (if time permits), contact the rental company immediately and let them correct it if you are not the guilty party.
