How do you travel between Albany, NY and New York Penn Station? It depends on your travel budget and the amount of time travel time you have left for the trip.

If you planned to travel between Manhattan and Cooperstown, NY, you would be familiar with Pine Hills Trailways which can be taken from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) located between 40th & 41st Street on Eight Avenue to Albany, NY. Keep in mind princes will fall and rise depending on your chosen departure times so try and be flexible for the best rate.
Passenger Rail
It is possible to travel between Albany, NY and New York Penn Station via Amtrak for under US$100.00 each way or US$200.00 round trip. If you are very flexible on your departure times, you may be able to acquire tickets for under US$50.00 each way so it is important to make reservations very early. When booking with Amtrak, use (NYP) for New York Penn Station and (ALB) for Albany, NY.
Saving Money
If you can not find low round trip fares with Amtrak, take Pine Hills Trailways (on the leg which you do not have to rush) and the Amtrak train the opposite way where speed is of the essence.
Saving Time
To avoid the long bus trip, use the Amtrak trains between Albany, NY and Poughkeepsie, NY and the Metro-North Hudson Line between Poughkeepsie, NY and Grand Central Station in Manhattan. Please keep in mind that Metro-North service are affected severely by storms so it is important to check the schedule in advance before heading out.
