How do you calculate tips and discounts in New York? Well, always start with an easy number like ten (10) and you can always do it in your head if your mobile phone does not include a calculator feature. If your mobile phone does feature a calculator, please remember to check your pocket or purse before you leave the taxi cab or restaurant that are using the device.
At times, the tips is included in your bill so be careful not to tip on thosee tips that you were already charged. Unfortunately, this happens quite frequently at local restaurants when you visit in a group and also varies to the number of guest you take to the restaurant.
Calculating a 15% Tip in New York
When doing tips, multiply the number by 1.15 ($60.00 x 1.15 = $69.00) and it will tell you how much to pay in total. No need to find 15% (which is $9.00) then do the addition to find out. It’s a time saver, reduces adding errors and helps you to budget sufficient currency to have on hand for spending.
Sample:
15% =1.15 ($9.00/$69.00)
10% =1.10 ($6.00/$66.00)
25% =1.25 ($15.00/$75.00)
Calculating a 15% discount in New York
If you are getting 15% off your bill, you can use another shortcut. Since 100 minus 15 equals 85, just multiply $60.00 by 0.85 and get $51.00 as your total. This also reduces your subtraction errors.
15% =.85 ($9.00/$51.00)
10% =.90 ($6.00/$54.00)
25% =.75 ($15.00/$45.00)
