When are the last elevators at the Empire State Building? Below are the hours to aid in planning your trip to the Empire State Building which is open 365 days a year! Please note the The Empire State Building reserves the right to close the Observatory early on very busy days so learn how to avoid the crowds and have a great experience.
Daily: 8:00am – Midnight
Last elevators go up at 11:15pm
Extended hours:
Until further notice the 102nd and 86th floor observatories will stay open until 2 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Last elevators go up at 1:15 a.m.
Note special holiday hours:
Christmas Eve (12/24):
8:00am to 7:00pm. Last elevators go up at 6:15pm.
Christmas Day (12/25):
11:00am to Midnight. Last elevators go up at 11:15pm.
New Year’s Eve (12/31):
8:00am to 7:00pm. Last elevators go up at 6:15pm.
New Year’s Day (1/1):
11:00am to Midnight. Last elevators go up at 11:15pm
When taking the elevators which travels at 426 meters per minute, you will reach the Observatory within forty-five (45) seconds from the lobby as it is the nineth fastest elevator in the world. Sometimes (when conditions permit), there is an option to walk up or down the stairs between the 80th floor and the 86th Floor Observatory. If you would like to walk or run from the ground floor, you can consider joining the Empire State Building annual run.
